๐Ÿ“Š Engagement Rate Calculator

Enter likes, comments, shares and saves, choose whether to divide by followers or by reach, and get a transparent engagement rate: total actions, denominator, the exact formula used, and a plain-language explanation. Missing values are excluded โ€” never silently counted as zero.

By followers divides by your follower count; by reach divides by the people who saw the post. Both use the same formula structure.

Blank metric fields are treated as missing and excluded from the total โ€” never counted as zero.

Your files stay with you. This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Please note: The calculator shows the formula, the inputs included, and the method used โ€” nothing more. It gives no good/bad verdicts and uses no invented benchmarks. Different platforms and reporting methods produce different rates.

How the Engagement Rate Calculator works

Choose a method โ€” by followers or by reach โ€” then enter the metrics you have: likes, comments, shares and saves. Any field you leave blank is treated as missing data and excluded from the total, which the result states explicitly.

The calculator divides the total included engagement actions by your chosen denominator and multiplies by 100. The result panel shows the total, the denominator, the formula with your numbers filled in, and a plain-language explanation.

By followers vs by reach

Engagement by followers = (engagement actions รท followers) ร— 100. This is the standard way to compare accounts of different sizes, because it normalizes for audience.

Engagement by reach = (engagement actions รท reach) ร— 100. This judges how compelling a single post was to the people who actually saw it. Reach is usually smaller than follower count, so by-reach rates are typically higher โ€” that is expected, not a sign of an error.

Reading the result honestly

A rate is only meaningful next to its method: always note whether a number is by followers or by reach before comparing two posts or two accounts.

The tool never labels a result good or bad, because benchmarks genuinely differ across platforms, niches and audience sizes. Use it to track your own trend over time โ€” that comparison is the most honest one you can make.

Example

A typical result. A creator enters 240 likes, 32 comments, 12 shares and 15,000 followers, selects 'by followers', and gets 1.99% with the full formula and a plain-language explanation of what the number means.

Frequently asked questions

What if I do not know one of the metrics?

Enter the numbers you have; leave any metric blank if you do not know it. Blank fields are treated as missing and excluded from the total โ€” they are not counted as zero. The result always lists exactly which actions were included.

What is the difference between the two methods?

By followers divides total engagement by your follower count โ€” useful for comparing accounts of different sizes. By reach divides by the number of people who actually saw the post โ€” useful for judging a single post's performance. The tool labels the method explicitly.

Why do engagement rates differ between platforms?

Different platforms count different actions and report reach differently, so the same post can produce different rates depending on the method. The tool states the formula and method used so results are always comparable and transparent.

Is my engagement rate good or bad?

No. The calculator deliberately gives no good/bad verdict. Benchmarks vary by platform, niche and audience size, and the tool does not invent any.
